Snack and Lunch Reminders
This year, each student in fifth grade will be responsible for bringing a daily healthy snack from home. Because fifth graders don’t eat lunch until around 12:00 PM, these healthy snacks are essential to rejuvenate the students’ energy and attention span. These snacks (and lunches) are consumed in our classroom, so it is important that students not only bring healthy snacks, but they also must be NUT FREE SNACKS AND FOOD ITEMS (both peanuts and tree nuts: almonds, pecans, etc.). When helping your child select a morning snack, please keep in mind the safety of our friends who have food allergies. The best defense against accidental exposure for our students with allergies is to always read the label. At the bottom of the ingredient list, an allergen warning can almost always be found. Ingredients do change, so always read the label even if you’ve checked on a prior purchase. Please refrain from sending homemade baked goods in your child’s lunch or snack.
Birthdays in Room 303
Birthdays are wonderful opportunities to celebrate each child in our classroom. If a child has a summer birthday, we’ll celebrate on his or her half birthday. Some families also like to celebrate birthdays by sending in a treat for the class while others opt to not send in anything. In the interest of health and safety of all students, fifth grade teachers are asking that families DO NOT send in food or toys as birthday treats.
Instead, please consider sending something for the class to enjoy such as:
- A game for the classroom
- A classroom book (A nice touch would be to your child pick it out, sign it, and date it.)
- A classroom set of items for each child to keep such as pencils, pens, erasers, markers, etc.
The items listed above will still make your child feel special and they will last a lot longer than a food item.
